According to 2021 Missouri Assessment Placement (MAP) testing scores, only 395 of 2,006 assessed third graders across all Kansas City district and charter schools tested proficient or advanced in reading at their grade level. That means fewer than two out of five third graders are ready to move on to fourth grade. The question for community stakeholders who want this generation to have a bright future is — how do we close the gap for the rest of those 1,600 public school children?
